Kendall brought her doctor kit consisting of stethoscope, ottoscope, and thermometer with her. It definitely kept her and I both entertained while we waited for Dr. Reyes. He came in, and I immediately looked to Kendall for a reaction. I loved our former pedi, but Kendall was never a fan. She would cry the minute she would walk in the room. These exam rooms were much bigger, and Dr. Reyes was soooooo laid back. When he examined her, he pushed on her belly saying, "Is this your tickle tummy?". Kendall giggled. I told the doctor that she must really like him because she normally has a meltdown. He also played with her doctor kit that she brought from home and helped her to "listen" to his heart. Dr. Reyes told me that he lives in Frisco with his wife and 3 sons, the youngest only 9 months old.
So, then he got down to business. He told me that Kendall is very tall for her age. She is in the 90th percentile for height!!! He said at this age, you can normally double her height to see where she will be when she's older. She was 35 1/2 inches. So he said she will definitely be at least 5'8" but not to be surprised if she grows to be 5'10"!!! That is crazy cool!!!!!!! Her noggin is also in the 80th percentile...big heads run on mama's side of the family. I attribute it to my huge brain :) She is in the 45th percentile for weight weighing in at 27 pounds today.
The greatest part of her appointment was how he told me that he would not have been concerned at all about her gross motor development. He said that 18 months (when she first walked) is not too late to walk. He told us that if she wasn't showing any signs AT ALL of walking at 18 months that it would then raise cause for concern, but she really wasn't a concern of his had we been a patient of their practice from birth. He also told us that he would have never sent us to a neurologist as our former doctor had. He said that she definitely just took her time, and we can probably see that with her personality now if we look at her overall temperament. Ummmm....yes. She is definitely stubborn, strong, and likes to do things when she is ready. Praise God we don't have to worry about her physical development.
I was soooooo not looking forward to shots and a blood draw, but to my surprise, she didn't need either today! I thought that was just standard at each checkup when they are little, but apparently she is all caught up. So, unless she is sick we won't need to go back until she is 3.
Overall, he said Kendall is right where she needs to be and looks perfect. Thank you Jesus!
After a trip through the McDonald's drive-thru, we were back home. I got online and enrolled in a dental and vision insurance plan. Then, I scheduled a visit with a dentist in Allen on our plan that a friend recommended for next Friday at 10:30. I have some pain, and I can't wait for it to be gone.
I also decided after wearing glasses since high school that I am OVER them. I constantly have people asking me if they're dirty and how I see out of them. They are horribly scratched up because the protective coating that I paid extra for didn't protect them. So, I think I am going to be a big girl and get contacts. I am uber nervous as this is definitely me at the eye doctor...
I so have to get over my fear of anything including eye drops near my eye, suck it up, and get contacts. It will be so nice to not have to hunt for my glasses because Kendall has taken them. Maybe down the road, if I can conquer my fear and get used to contacts, I can get Lasik. Baby steps.
