Doctor/Dentist/Optometrist Day

Today was Kendall's 2 year pediatric checkup.  I was pretty nervous since we were trying a new practice in McKinney near our house sight unseen.  We were referred by my friend, Stephanie, to Dr. Reyes at Stonebridge Pediatrics.  They recently moved to a new office location in McKinney, and it was beautiful!  It was so clean which is a huge deal for me since I have become such a germ-a-phobe with cold and flu season.  The receptionist and his nurse, Lacey, were very friendly.

Kendall brought her doctor kit consisting of stethoscope, ottoscope, and thermometer with her. It definitely kept her and I both entertained while we waited for Dr. Reyes.  He came in, and I immediately looked to Kendall for a reaction.  I loved our former pedi, but Kendall was never a fan.  She would cry the minute she would walk in the room.  These exam rooms were much bigger, and Dr. Reyes was soooooo laid back.  When he examined her, he pushed on her belly saying, "Is this your tickle tummy?".  Kendall giggled.  I told the doctor that she must really like him because she normally has a meltdown.  He also played with her doctor kit that she brought from home and helped her to "listen" to his heart.  Dr. Reyes told me that he lives in Frisco with his wife and 3 sons, the youngest only 9 months old.

So, then he got down to business.  He told me that Kendall is very tall for her age.  She is in the 90th percentile for height!!!  He said at this age, you can normally double her height to see where she will be when she's older.  She was 35 1/2 inches.  So he said she will definitely be at least 5'8" but not to be surprised if she grows to be 5'10"!!!  That is crazy cool!!!!!!!  Her noggin is also in the 80th percentile...big heads run on mama's side of the family.  I attribute it to my huge brain :)  She is in the 45th percentile for weight weighing in at 27 pounds today.

The greatest part of her appointment was how he told me that he would not have been concerned at all about her gross motor development.  He said that 18 months  (when she first walked) is not too late to walk.  He told us that if she wasn't showing any signs AT ALL of walking at 18 months that it would then raise cause for concern, but she really wasn't a concern of his had we been a patient of their practice from birth.  He also told us that he would have never sent us to a neurologist as our former doctor had.  He said that she definitely just took her time, and we can probably see that with her personality now if we look at her overall temperament.  Ummmm....yes.  She is definitely stubborn, strong, and likes to do things when she is ready.  Praise God we don't have to worry about her physical development.

I was soooooo not looking forward to shots and a blood draw, but to my surprise, she didn't need either today!  I thought that was just standard at each checkup when they are little, but apparently she is all caught up.  So, unless she is sick we won't need to go back until she is 3.

Overall, he said Kendall is right where she needs to be and looks perfect.  Thank you Jesus!

After a trip through the McDonald's drive-thru, we were back home.  I got online and enrolled in  a dental and vision insurance plan.  Then, I scheduled a visit with a dentist in Allen on our plan that a friend recommended for next Friday at 10:30.  I have some pain, and I can't wait for it to be gone.

I also decided after wearing glasses since high school that I am OVER them.  I constantly have people asking me if they're dirty and how I see out of them.  They are horribly scratched up because the protective coating that I paid extra for didn't protect them.  So, I think I am going to be a big girl and get contacts.  I am uber nervous as this is definitely me at the eye doctor...

I so have to get over my fear of anything including eye drops near my eye, suck it up, and get contacts.  It will be so nice to not have to hunt for my glasses because Kendall has taken them.  Maybe down the road, if I can conquer my fear and get used to contacts, I can get Lasik.  Baby steps.

Pretty productive day so far!

McKinney Moms Gone WILD!

So when I pulled up to the gym tonight my stomach flipped.  The parking lot was PACKED!  Oh sweet!  Parking spot right up front opens up.  I have about 10 minutes until class starts so, what do I do?  Pray of course!  Hahaha!!!

"Lord Jesus.  Please help me to put aside my fears to go into this class with an open mind and heart to have fun, get fit, and let others see You in me all in the spirit of fun.  ...and please forgive me of my sins.  Thank you for everything you bless me with.  In Your name I pray.  Amen."

The class description on the schedule reads,
"This is a total body experience using crazy hip hop hustle moves, sculpting sensual and belly dance isolations and the coolest line dance moves.  Almost too fun to call it a workout!"

I go in, and I am the first one to arrive.  While waiting outside the room, I watch the Zumba class that is finishing up.  I've never taken Zumba, but I will for sure be at the next class!  They were having a blast!  It helps my nerves to subside a bit.  A woman walks up and smiles at me.  "Oh good!  I'm not the only one!!!, "  I think to myself.  She asks me if I have taken the class before, and I told her that this was my first time as I just recently joined the gym.  She told me that she had taken Zumba before, but it was a bit too hard for her.

A song comes in the Zumba class starts, and she says, "I love this song!  It's from my country of India!!!"

"Awesome!,"  I tell her.

Another woman walks up with a headset on and is uber fit.  She says, " Hi ladies" with a huge smile.  Both the Indian woman and I smile and say hello and smile.  This is exactly who she looks like.

(Jada Pinkett Smith)

My new friend from India (whose name I failed to ask) asks the instructor how the class is formatted.  To which she replied, "It is designed to get you completely out of your comfort zone with exotic dance moves and popular club dances to all the biggest music hits from the past and present."

*searching for nearest exit*

Don't shy away, Kelli!  You were in dance for years!!!  You can do this!!!  It will be fun!!!!!

Thanks to my conscience, I reluctantly decide to stay.  I see no one I know as more ladies start to trickle in.  So, on the plus side, if I make a total fool of myself, I don't ever have to face these people again.  Join a new gym, and it's all good in the hood.  Right??

Let the class begin...

First song up:
Too Much Booty in the Pants- 2 Live Crew

My thoughts...

"OH snap!  Old school"
"Very fitting for my physique"
"You can take the girl out of the hood, but you can't take the hood out of the girl.  G what?!?"
"Ok, my thighs hurt, and it's hot in here!"
"I am the youngest one in this class"
"I wish Tabatha McCord and LaKeisha Williams were here RIGHT NOW!!!

Next song up:

Naughty Girl- Beyonce
(90% of the dance moves she does, we did)

Instructor:
"Alright ladies, it's time to get naked!"

My thoughts...

"Oh heeeeeeeeck no!"
"Lord, forgive me"
"Body rolls are good for the soul"
"Ok, this isn't so bad"

Instructor:
"You gotta get low!!!  Twerk it!  Pop it!  Drop it to the floor!"

My thoughts...

"Thank God no one I know is here.  Though, I know I would have so much fun with my friends like Tabatha and LaKeisha!"

Next song up:

E-40 ft. Too Short
Lady in the class:
"Wait!  Wait!  Can you go back and show us how to twerk it?  I think I'm doing it the wrong way!"

Lady in the class demonstrates a move similar to this...

Instructor:
"No ma'am.  This class is called Crazy, sexy cardio not hot mess!  Hahaha!!!  That's a dirty old man move!"

She then demonstrates this:

WARNING!  THIS VIDEO IS KINDA GRAPHIC!  ...but spot on what we were supposed to do!

My thoughts...
"yeah...I don't look like that"

At this point, she tells us to freestyle ONE.AT.A.TIME!

Where were those exits again??

My turn comes up, and I do my thang...

She says, "Alright girl!!!  Yeah!!!"  Then, she dances over to me, and starts doing the bump with me.  Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So.freaking.FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok next song up...

Rumor Has It- Adele
(LOVE)

My thoughts...
"Ohhhh!  This is where the cardio comes in!!!"
"Holy heck.  I am sweating like whoa"

Next song...

Scream and Shout- Britney and Will.I.Am

My thoughts...

"I am officially dying"
"Can we slow down"
"water...."
"I hate to admit it, but I think this song is growing on me"

Water break...thank you Jesus!!!

Line dancing time!!!

Song and dance selection for the evening:

Aaliyah - Rock The Boat

(We did the same dance that's in the video during the chorus)

My thoughts...
"Love this!!!"

Final song for cool down:

How Come You Don't Call Me- Alicia Keys, originally Prince

Instructor:
"You go home and do all these moves for your man, and I bet you he calls you!"

Hahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!

Final thoughts....

I LOVED this class.  It was intimidating, but so fun to let loose.  No one laughed or made fun of anyone.  It was just good fun, and a DANG HARD workout!!!

Sometimes, you have to just put your fears aside, and let go!  It may not always work out or be what you expected, but at least you can't say you didn't try.

I had a "crazy, sexy" good time, and I will for sure be back.

p.s.- Don't be fooled by your everyday McKinney soccer mom.  She could be WILD!!!!  The proof is in this class!

Time to hit the showers.  Night friends!

Let's Begin

So I decided to start a blog.  I feel like I probably dominate the Facebook feed with my random status updates and pics of my child.  I'm a proud mama and wife.  What can I say?  While I've never had any complaints, I still feel like I need a place to call my own where I can journal my thoughts, feelings, rants, raves, and share well,...me without it being under the Facebook microscope.

I love to write, and this just feels right.  Haha....see what I did there?  *oi vey*  Yes, that's my cheesy sense of humor.  I'm not ashamed.

So, if you are interested in following my crazy brain, feel free!  Again, I just want a place to record pieces of my life.

Hope you enjoy!
